Weight Loss and Obesity Management Program

Our Weight Care and Obesity Management Program

Obesity?

A long-term (chronic) health condition that progresses over time. A patient’s abnormal or excessive fat (adipose tissue) accumulation raises health concerns. An obese person has a risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

Obesity shouldn’t be ignored; it is curable.

But first, you need to understand.

Are you obese or overweight?

If

Body Mass Index (BMI) > 25  ——-  Overweight

Body Mass Index (BMI) > 30  ——-  Obese

Lose weight three months Program.

Dr. Ram Lakhani introduced the “Weight Care and Obesity Management” Program to help patients with difficulty losing/managing weight.

Our Goals:

The Weight Care and Obesity Management three-month program encompasses the following goals.

  1. Weight Loss [3-6 months]
  2. Prevention of weight regain [Onwards 3-6 months]
  3. Optimizing health and reducing disease risk

Weight Care and Obesity Management Strategy:

Dr. Ram follows minimal intervention strategies, such as

5 A’s:

Ask – Assess – Advise – Agree – Assist

He guides the process of counseling a patient about behavioral and lifestyle changes

Weight Care and Obesity Program Phases:

Our program has three major phases for successful completion.

  1. Pre-inclusion screening phase
  2. Weight-loss phase
  3. Maintenance Phase

Nutrition Counselling in WCO Program:

A healthy diet plays a pivotal role in weight loss/management.

Dr. Ram, our physician’s diabetologist’s approach to treating obesity, is to eat a healthy, reduced-calorie diet and exercise regularly.

Follow-up Appointments for Weight Maintenance:

Losing weight is not our final goal; it’s maintaining a healthy weight (As per BMI).

Therefore, Dr. Ram encourages patients to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle. Follow-up appointments last at least one year after the successful completion of the program

Outcomes of the WCO Program:

The potential benefits of moderate sustained weight loss (5 kg+ in 3 to 6 months)

Benefits of Weight Loss

  1. Improvement in physical function
  2. Reduced all-cause and diabetes-related mortality
  3. Lowered cancer-related mortality
  4. Asthma-related disability with improved lung function
  5. Reduction in arthritis-related disability
  6. Blood pressure control: Weight loss of around 5 kg is associated with a reduction in systolic blood pressure between 3.8 – 4.4 mmHg
  7. Glycemic Control and Lower incidence of diabetes:

In patients with type 2 diabetes, Weight loss of around 5 kg in obese patients with type 2 diabetes is associated with a reduction in HbA1c of around 0.28% at 12 months.

  • Preventing/Delaying Diabetes Onset: In adults with impaired glucose tolerance, “Insulin Resistance Syndrome” behaviorally mediated weight loss can prevent diabetes (58% reduction in diabetes incidence)
  • Obese patients with type 2 diabetes who achieved 5% or 5kg had improved physical fitness, reduced physical symptoms, and experienced significant improvement in health-related quality of life.
  • Improved Lipid Profiles with reductions in low-density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and increased high-density lipoprotein levels.
  • Cardiovascular disease and metabolic risk reduction

Follow-up Appointments for Weight Maintenance:

Losing weight is not our final goal; it’s maintaining a healthy weight (As per BMI).

Therefore, Dr. Ram encourages patients to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle. Follow-up appointments last at least one year after the successful completion of the program

Weight Care and Obesity Management Program is not just about Diet intake. The three-month program involves

  1. Healthy diet
  2. Physical Activity: Vary in level from three supervised sessions plus exercise information to recording 30-45 minutes of activity four to five times a week)
  3. Behavioral Therapy

Combining all the above factors is necessary for effective weight loss compared to the diet alone.
